Fort Langley, founded in 1827 by the Hudson’s Bay Company, began as a trading post on the Fraser River in British Columbia. It was central to the fur trade, facilitating exchanges with Indigenous peoples and early settlers. In 1858, it briefly served as a provisional capital during the Fraser River Gold Rush, drawing prospectors to the region. The fort also played a role in defending the colony against potential U.S. expansion. By the late 19th century, as trade declined, the site evolved into a small village. Today, Fort Langley preserves its heritage through a national historic site, celebrating its colonial and First Nations history.
