The Opera House is a music venue in Toronto’s east-end Riverdale District. It is one of the city's most historic performing venues, and it has quite a history!
La Plaza Theatre opened in 1909 as an Edwardian vaudeville stage seating almost 700. At the time it was the main entertainment venue in the primarily working-class neighbourhood. Over the years the theatre became a cinema, continuing to use the name La Plaza Theatre until the 1960s. Eventually it became a music venue, and in the early 1990s was renamed "The Opera House".
Despite its evolution, The Opera House has maintained its classic features including the charm of its original 1900’s vaudeville theatre architecture - the stage is still surrounded by the original and elegant 35-foot proscenium arch which is now lit up for every event to enhance its beauty.
